Kapsch CarrierCom Wins a Further Large Order for a Railway Communication System from Network Rail UK - The British railway infrastructure operator Network Rail relies on Kapsch CarrierCom AG's innovative system solutions and recently Kapsch CarrierCom was awarded a significant order for the implementation of a railway communication system.
Vienna, September 24th 2010 -- The British railway infrastructure operator Network Rail relies on Kapsch CarrierCom AG's innovative system solutions and recently Kapsch CarrierCom was awarded a significant order for the implementation of a railway communication system. In addition to expanding the wireless coverage, a new R4 architecture will be implemented in the core network. With this step, the existing infrastructure will be converted to a Next Generation's all-IP based network. Furthermore, Kapsch CarrierCom will offer additional services and improved features & platforms in order to increase the network's performance, as well as ensuring the smooth integration of the new functionality into Network Rail's existing network. This project once again demonstrates Kapsch CarrierCom's expertise and market leadership and adds a new chapter to its international success story.
"Network Rail, one of the leading railway operators, relies on Kapsch CarrierCom's expertise with the planned railway communication system. Numerous existing large projects, such as in France, Germany and in Austria, confirm our success. We provide maximum efficiency with our integrated solutions, which perfectly meet the customer's requirements for wireless train communication and GSM-R systems. Our expertise supports the customer in operating their infrastructure more cost effectively and to enter the 21st century with new technologies such as, for example, the IP based R4 architecture. Kapsch CarrierCom will stay on this successful path by continuing to drive new developments," explains Michel Clement, Kapsch CarrierCom's Vice President GSM-R.
The migration to the R4 technology offers operators such as Network Rail the most advanced technology, which is currently available on the market.
Kapsch CarrierCom's solutions for Network Rail in detail
The technology, offered by Kapsch CarrierCom, contains a Mobile Switching Centre Server (MSCS), Home Location Register (HLR) and Media Gateways. The R4 advantages are also reflected in the railway's efficiency. For example, the capacity to support high traffic volume increases, while the railway's operating costs are reduced. Kapsch CarrierCom's new R4 technology satisfies the requirements of the 3GPP version 4 BICN architecture. Due to the distributed architecture, both the voice traffic (bearer at the Media Gateway) and the call control function (Call Server, MSCS) are supported simultaneously, which also increases performance. The physical separation and the open interfaces are a central aspect of the 3GPP BICN standard. This technology relies on the latest packet switching equipment instead of traditional circuit switches and consolidates all services and network layers onto a single, scalable infrastructure. This provides the necessary flexibility for future network developments.
